Personal consumption is a little over 70% of our gross domestic product or GDP. Without the demand consumers provide, there would be no “business entities” around. Consumers drive our economy and are the only reason that business entities exist. At least until now, the consumer still dictates.
I do believe this could change if we’re not careful. If we allow these entities to monopolize markets, control resources, and amass wealth, then we’ll be at their mercy. Supply may end up controlling demand because there are no other sources to buy from. It could even morph into a quasi dictatorship.
If we were able to trade amongst one another for the majority of what we need, power does not accumulate. If an entity desires to work more as a collective, non-profit with the attitude of what it can bare to bring to the market instead of what the market will bare, I think it has potential.
